Things have been pretty good so far; however tonight I am only getting around 60Mbps download speed... I'm not going to complain unless it becomes a common occurence. This is the first time I have gotten anything less than 360Mbps since the upgrade.
The upload speed is fine at around 25Mbps.
usually I am getting 360 - 380Mbps down with 30Mbps up. Hopefully its not an ongoing issue.

upgraded to 360Mbps package on September 6th.

Sd vs HD channels
With COGECO, I notice we have SD version of some channels with differing HD versions.
2 good examples are FOX 29 and PBS (Buffalo/Toronto).
both of these channels are in SD .
There are HD versions of FOX and PBS; however the HD versions are Detroit versions of the channels which are slightly different.
Its not really the end of the world or anything; however, I also notice the same for ABC, NBC, CBS, CTV2 and YTV.
Just curious why the HD equivalents are different channels then the SD ones.
For most channels with HD/SD are the same and we get the little press D to view in HD which makes it easy to figure out which SD channels have HD equivalents etc.

Hitron CODA-4589 Guest Network
When trying to enable guest network, the security only applies for the 2.4Ghz guest network. The 5GHz guest network broadcasts as open and there doesnt seem to be a way to enable only the 2.4GHz Guest network without the 5Ghz guest network.
Anybody else notice this?

Switch on amazing
How does this company stay in business? Here's a brief synopsis of my experience with Cogeco over the last couple of months.
* Last July (2018), we were having issues with our internet service. I called Cogeco and they sent a tech. Tech determined that the outside coax was bad and ran a temporary line from the box in our neighbours yard to our home and restored our internet service to operational status. We're still waiting for them to bury this temporary line and the burial season for 2019 is fast coming to a close. We will be extremely lucky to have this temporary line buried by 2036 by my estimation.
* Couple of months ago I called Cogeco to return a cable television receiver that we weren't using. Cogeco customer service rep sold me on the Freedom phone package and an internet upgrade to their UltraFibre Gigabit service. The guy kep putting me on hold while he "checked" all of the details. Went through the whole spiel, took the order, set an appointment, and told me when to expect the tech to show up to install and upgrade. The day of the installation arrives and NO tech shows up. I called the next day to find out what had happened and to ask why the guy didn't show up. I was told that there was no appointment and that no order had been placed. I had to go through the whole ordering process again. I was PISSED OFF TO SAY THE LEAST.
* Finally get the internet service upgraded and the phone service installed. It doesn't work! It took three whole days for my phone and internet service to work properly. I couldn't even get through to Cogeco tech support to report the problem because their "reliable" phone service was non-functional. I was PISSED OFF TO SAY THE LEAST.
* I have this number that keeps calling my home and not responding when we answer the phone. My entire household is incredibly frustrated by this calling party. I decided to add Cogeco's Call-Blocking feature to my phone service at an additional cost of $5.00 per month. I turned on the call-blocking feature, added the number that kept calling and annoying us, and thought that we were finally rid of these calls. Were we? Nope! Cogeco's call-blocking feature magically turns itself off and this number continues to call us. I AM PISSED OFF TO SAY THE LEAST.
* I called Cogeco to order a battery for our Hitron modem. The customer service rep places me on hold no less than three times while she claims to be checking to see which battery to send me. She then asked me for my credit card information so that I could pay for the battery. So far so good. I receive the battery and try to install it in my modem. I CAN'T! Installing a battery in this modem requires an external dock that attaches to the bottom of the modem. I received the battery but NOT the dock. In all of that time that I was on hold waiting for this lady to find out which battery I would need, she didn't think it pertinent to ask me if I needed the dock for the battery? Couldn't she see from my account information that I was not supplied a dock and would be needing one? AGAIN I AM PISSED OFF.
Switch on Amazing? The only thing amazing about Cogeco's services is that people actually pay real money for this SHIT!
Some manager/supervisor/executive at Cogeco might see this rant and question the audacity of the author to write such a scathing review of their "customer service"... I can just imagine what this dickhead might be thinking: He's only a fucking paying customer, he has no god damned right to complain!
I am highly tempted to SWITCH OFF AMAZING!

[INTERNET] Hitron CODA-4589
Anyone else having an issue with their Hitron CODA-4589 where any settings you change are eventually set back to default?
For example, I'm trying to change the "Residential Gateway Function" to "Disabled" so I can use my own router but it eventually sets itself back to "Enabled"
I have also disabled the wireless on the Hitron and it seems to just turn itself back on. Any ideas?
On a side note; my cable connection also seems to drop on the Hitron modem randomly and I need to reboot the modem from the webGUI to get internet connection back.

Hitron CODA 4589 RTMP throttling?
Any other Twitch streamers out there? Just got the 1000/30 service installed in St. Catharines yesterday (hurray for real internet!) and when I went to stream to twitch with my usual settings that work flawlessly on bell getting nothing but dropped frames and packets, a little researching and apparently Rogers customers with these modems have the same issues - anybody out there find a solution? Streaming at 1500kpbs up isn't an option.
Thanks.

[INTERNET] Switched to UltraFibre 1Gig. Slow!
I switched last month from Primus to Cogeco UltraFibre 1 Gig Unlimited and it's been terrible! Trying to game on PC or Nintendo Switch in the evening is impossible. They used the existing coaxial cable that enters my house and is at least 10 years old. Is this a problem? :(

[INTERNET] Moving a Cogeco modem to another address
I've done this with Videotron before and it works in Montreal, bringing the modem another house 20km away.
Curious to know what the unofficial answer for this is on Cogeco.
The use case is we have 2 seasonal homes in different cities in Quebec and we don't need internet at both houses at the same time.
Obviously both homes are wired for Cable TV.

Cogeco IPTV

Cogeco Connexion is taking its customers into the future with the introduction of MediaKind's state-of-the-art solution, enhancing their experience with highly customizable video content, wireless receivers, voice activated controls, and access to Android Google Mobile Services for a complete video offering. This evolution toward IPTV will further enhance Cogeco Connexion's TV platform offering, demonstrating the Company's ability to truly listen to and adapt its services to changing market dynamics and customers' needs.
"At Cogeco Connexion, we always make our customers' needs central to our priorities and decision-making process," stated Ken Smithard, President of Cogeco Connexion. "Trends in TV viewing clearly show that operators must always innovate in order to offer a rich and customized customer experience. After careful consideration, we are confident that the MediaFirst IPTV platform is the best vehicle to fulfill our promise to Canadian viewers by offering a cutting-edge technology with personalization features and greater ease of use for the kind of viewing experience our customers want and deserve."

Customers currently enjoying our existing video services, including the advanced TiVo solution, will continue to be offered their current services in the future as MediaFirst will coexist with these video platforms.
"This announcement is great news for Cogeco Connexion and its customers. The introduction of an IPTV solution allows for a transition to a more efficient all-Internet protocol video delivery solution providing Cogeco Connexion with access to a broader video equipment ecosystem," added Luc Noiseux, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology and Strategy Officer, Cogeco Communications Inc.

[TV] Can I build a My Mix 40 package online?
Right now I am with the Ultimate Package and frankly, I hate it. I don't watch HBO nor Crave and frankly, many of the other channels, I am not interested in. But the ones I would like to watch are not part of this current package. So I would love to see what I "could" get if I made my own package, using the My Mix 40. However, it seems that they want me to actually speak to someone over the phone to make this package??? Is that the case?
It would be so much easier to sit at home, online, and pick the channels ourselves, no? I must be missing something here....

Upgrading TiVo and Modem
I will be upgrading my TiVo service to 4K and they have to replace the main Arris box. Reading all these horrible reviews about the modems.
I have all 3 services from Cogeco so it is worrisome seeing reviews about the wifi issues.
Any one know what model of modem I should be avoiding when the tech comes to do the install.
Have they figured out the modem issues?
Thanks

[TV] New HD channels?
Got a message yesterday (Oct 30) stating that several new HD channels will be available shortly, and are already in the guide. This was great news to me, as one of them was MSNBC (SD 133) which I watch often. I would love to have it in HD (supposedly 820).
Another message showed up today (Oct 31) saying MSNBC-HD (820) is deleted. (It didn't actually show up on that channel at all.)
Any way to know whether it will be available in the future? Where could I ask about this? Seems too trivial of a question for Cogeco Direct!
Thanks -- Pauline

Thanks for the help, interesting reading, and expertise
Fibre optic was installed yesterday. 1GB down 750 up for less than I paid for half the speed with Cogeco. And that is the regular price. Thanks for all the advice over the years. See you all on the other side :)

[INTERNET] Hitron coda-4589 router
This router has been nothing but problems since it was installed. Tech #1 says it goes down 10 times a day but it's not a big deal because some customers internet goes down up to 10000 times a month!!!. He says The Hiltron is unfixable as it is using a Puma chipset, and a firmware update by the manufacturer has not been made available to internet providers. Phone tech say this is nonsense and tech #1 is crazy, the Hiltron-4589 can be fixed so that a modem isn't dropping up to 10000 a month. So the obvious question is can the router be fixed or will the router dropouts continue?
I call tech support every day to let them know the number of times my router goes down and they automatically give me a credit whenever I call - which is every day, so basically I'm not paying for the internet part of my package!! So does any one know if Tech #1 is right or is the phone tech right?

Trying to move extender
I would like to move the wifi extender that was installed with my HITRON 4589 modem. I do have TiVo and was wondering if I can split the main cable that goes into the TiVo dvr and take one line to the extender and the other back to the TiVo dvr.
I cannot use the TV out on the extender because it won’t support the MoCa and my TiVo minis wont work.
Anyone tried something similar? I don’t have a splitter yet and don’t want to buy one if it won’t work.
Thanks

Another Cogeco rate increase
Looks like Cogeco has decided to raise prices again, for the second or third time this year. After raising prices May 1 (and maybe Jan. 1 for some), they've now scheduled more price hikes for Nov. 1. CEO Philippe Jette told analysts in July that there's still room to introduce "reasonable" price increases despite competition from other technologies. Even for those who "cut the cord," there's more dollars available from them to increase speeds on their internet, he said. "So we see capacity for price increases in the future, being reasonable and making sure customers see the value we're bringing to the table."
Personally, I'm looking forward to being able to kiss 'em goodbye.

[INTERNET] Periodic packet loss in Burlington
I previously had the Arris cable modem w/120mbps service and experienced periodic, highly disruptive IP packet loss. About every 30 seconds there would be 50-95% packet loss for a second or so, almost entirely impacting outgoing packets but occasionally hitting incoming packets. A TCP connection is built to detect and remediate this (albeit slowing transfers, a huge spike in latency, etc), but UDP connections simply lose the packets. Many games use UDP so you end up with warping, etc. Many streaming video and audio solutions use UDP so there is often intermittent stuttering.
I tested directly with a wired connection across multiple systems. It is not in my home.
I upgraded to the Hitron 4589/1Gbps mostly just hoping that it might resolve this, but the same issue is there. The signal strength readings are all fine, and the number of errors (both corrected and uncorrected) sits at 0 (e.g. as far as the modem is concerned it has a perfect connection with its upstream partner). It's happening further upstream. It's a relatively recent problem, going on for about a month now, after years of close to perfect service, and is incredibly irritating.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is Cogeco grossly overloading their pipes? They are advertising that some locations in Burlington have almost a Gbps upstream and it just seems doubtful they have the infrastructure for this. I hesitate sitting at home all day so a tech can come in and realize that it isn't something on my end.
