Cogeco recently replaced my Arris modem (wifi issue) with the DPC3848VM. On the Arris, I could use DynDns and simple port forwarding to access my cameras remotely. On the DPC3848VM, DynDns seems to be working, but port forwarding does not seem to work. Cogeco tech support refuses to help because "we don't support that". Is there a trick to getting port forwarding to work? or is Cogeco blocking all non-standard ports now? I have tried a second DPC3848VM with the same results. Apparently I can't bridge the DPC3848VM because of TiVo. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

CP24
Dunno what happened but CP24 vanished recently...went to watch it today and it doesn't exist any more. Called tech support and they didn't get any notice that it was moving or being removed from the lineup. What's up with that?

What do you pay? What do you get?
I've been with Cogeco for more than a decade. I am considering cancelling everything and going to Start for internet and will wait to see what their tv/iptv offering is. I have voip.ms so I don't need phone.
I know Cogeco will offer me some type of loyalty/retention offer. Here is what I currently have and pay:
High Speed UltraFibre 60 Unlimited - $89.95
Basic Channels - TV - $25.00
HST: $14.94
Total: $129.89
I own my cable boxes, so I don't pay for rentals. They are older boxes. A Pace and a Motorola I think.
I'd like to know what "deals" others are getting so I can have some leverage when I call.
Thanks!

Internet connection after 7PM crippled.
Hello I am in Oakville near 3rd line and I am with Start Communications (they use Cogeco's lines). The connection after 7PM gets very bad, this issue started Sunday evening. I think it resolves itself during the day because when I get home from work at 5PM it is ok till 7PM.
I see there is a thread on the Cogeco Direct forum from someone titled "Horrible Internet after 7PM" but I cannot read the thread (I assume it is a Cogeco support forum). I suspect he / she is having the same problem I am. Does anyone know what the problem is... or are having similar issues?
Thanks.

[INTERNET] Got my router replaced and IPv6 stopped working
So, I had Cogeco out and they replaced my modem with an Arris TM822 and now IPv6 is not working any more.
It was working just fine for many many months before the modem replacement and now does not work after the replacement. Nothing else has changed.
I can see that my router is sending DHCPv6 Solicit requests but there is just no response at all.
Any ideas? Other than calling of course, since I have already done that and all I got from them was "You don't have IPv6 service. You have UltraFibre 40 Is your wireless working? Can you plug your computer directly into the modem?". Not that I really expected much different.

modem replacement
Having problems with my simple modem, I replaced it with a Cisco DPC3825 modem-router. Suspecting that it would be totally different than the old modem, I asked the store person if there is any manual for it. She said, it is simple, just plug it in and everything will work the same. Yes, right! This modem's LAN addresses conflicted with my (Ubiquiti) router LAN addresses, and I had to do something about my port forwarding or NAT. Anyway, after some considerable time, I managed to have it working as the old one, first, by changing its LAN address and then setting DMZ to point to my router.
My question now is, should I remove my router and use this modem's router instead? Does it function well as a router?
BTW, when I initially called cogeco support about the old modem problem, I was asked whether my wifi router worked ok. I said my router is not wifi, and I was told then "Router means wifi"!!!! So much about trusting the cogeco tech support.

[INTERNET] DoS attacks on home network
We are having issues with some punk kid using a website to run DoS attacks on our Cogeco home network and apparently Cogeco has nothing they can do about it. Hoping someone here can tell me what I can do to stop it and to protect our network from this punk having the ability to mess with our connection. This is happening all because our son wouldn't give him access to his Xbox Live account so he is sending the DoS attacks as a way to attempt to blackmail our son into giving up his account info. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!!

[INTERNET] Message from Cogeco Security
Hi all,
First time poster (but regular reader).
I received an email from Cogeco Security earlier in the month stating "You are receiving this email as it appears your network is running a NTP server that is vulnerable to being used in denial of service attacks.....If you are aware that you are running a NTP server we simply require you to secure your NTP services' along with links to sites describing DoS attacks. I'd received the same email from them a couple of months ago and was told - no worries, all is good.
Today service was suspended and after a lengthy call with ( a very pleasant lady) from Cogeco - they reinstated service but said I need to disable NTP server.
I'm a reasonably bright guy but know diddly about networks etc. Asked how I was to determine "if" I was running a NTP server (very simple set up here, iMac and a couple of laptops running on Netgear WNDR3300 router) - she talked to someone and came back with "it's probably your router, access the router and turn NTP off".
So, I did as she said - logged on to the router and could find zero about NTP. After quite a search on Google - no wiser.
So - help! I have no idea what to do next, what questions to ask, where to look.
Any direction to a simple guy would be appreciated. Thanks!

New 1Gbps and 360Mbps expanding??
I just got off the phone with Cogeco inquiring about the new 1Gbps and 360Mbps packages expanding to Windsor (It is just in Burlington and Oakville for now) and the agent told me it will come to Windsor in a couple of months.. should I take this with a grain of salt, or is it really coming so soon?
Other questions about this service..
What transport type will this be using? GPON, DOCSIS3.1 or something else?
Can you get a "loyalty" discount on these plans? (A contract.. for lower rates)
What modem is used with these plans?

Cable burying standards for ISP's
I was a Cogeco customer for 20 years. I recently decided to change to one of their resellers, V-Media.
The service is working fine......BUT, not long after switching, my lawn maintenance guys said they wanted to aerate my front yard.
This made me think....about two things: 1. I remember back about 5 years ago, I unearthed my Cogeco cable in the front yard simply by raking my grass clippings; THAT's how shallow it was in the ground.
2. Now that I'm no longer a "direct" customer of Cogeco...who's responsible for any physical (as opposed to signal) cable problems I may have?
If the lawn guys cut or even just puncture/injure the cable, who's responsible and who will fix it?
Further, a more general question (which would apply to ALL providers) how deep in the ground should that cable BE?
Cogeco's Cable contractor who came out (5 years ago) to look at the cable after I accidentally pulled it out of the ground said "they" would come out and re-bury it...complete with a new conduit-style sheath.
It never happened.
Now what?

250Mbps or higher coming to Halton Hills?
I live in Georgetown and am still stuck at 120 download speeds, does anyone know of expansions to the area to get faster speeds?
Other neighbouring regions get 360 Mbps or higher, and my street just only recently fixed a node issue that was causing crippling speeds due to congestion.
Edit:
Also, what would it take to get higher speeds in my area? Is it infrastructure in any way, or simply changing the nodes? Or is it just a simple software update to the modems or something?

[INTERNET] SamKnows
Hi,
I have a Cogeco internet circuit on which I have only a secured PBX in my home. I have a Samknows devices also on this link. A couple months back, my internet usage went from sub 100mb/month to about 4G a day, with lots of upload + download. This looks about like the Samknows testing profile which Cogeco are apparently onboard to exclude from subscriber billing, but in my case, it appears broken.
Anyone @ Cogeco able to assist?
Thanks,
Pete

Question about fibre.
Just curios how Cogeco sets up fibre to the home. I'm asking because I'm at a older home with most of the cable already behind the walls.
I know very little about fibre. Does it or can it just join the existing coaxial in the house? How do the TV's connect to a fibre network?
Thank you.

Expansion in Belle River?
We're about 900m from the nearest neighbourhood that is serviced by Cogeco. The street is River Downs Ave in Belle River. I've had two appointments booked and cancelled just days before because the service was not ready. Does anyone know if this expansion will happen and/or when? I'm not even sure if the necessary lines are in the ground. Bell is here.
Thanks!
