Is Cogeco referencing customers to a scammy computer repair service?

$

I've heard of this happening twice in the past year or so, people who were directed to call a scam company for remote repair for their computers and I'm curious if this is an official Cogeco corporate scam or phone support representatives who are directing them to a scammy company for kickbacks? I just resolved a friends' issue with their Arris modem, a Cogeco problem yet the support representative my friend called stated their was nothing wrong on their side and was told by Cogeco she needed to call a number provided by Cogeco for a service to have the issue fixed. She called the number, spoke to someone with a foreign accent that tried to help her but eventually told her she had to take it to somewhere to have it fixed. This Cogeco company charged her for this. She took it to Best Buy who found nothing wrong but charged her a diagnostic fee, then she called me for help. I experienced issues with my laptop and her Arris modem. We had the modem swapped for a different modem and that resolved the problem. It seems Cogeco or Cogeco employees are scamming customers for Cogeco issues! Anyone have any insight?

Pace 777d bricked by Cogeco?

I have my own 777D pvr, bought at Costco some time ago. I know it does have some issues, tends to freeze for a couple of seconds once in awhile, but it still works well. Anyway, got the new guide recently, seemed to actually improve things, no more freezes. A couple of days ago, it lost its pvr functionality. So I rebooted, and that restored the functionality. But all the channels went into 'this channel will be available shortly ' mode. Cogeco support was of no help, just rebooted again. Has anyone else noticed this?

[INTERNET] A current customer-will Cogeco let me have their advertised price ?

I have had the UltraFibre 250 Unlimited Package for over a year now. I am paying $114.95 per month. I saw this exact package listed on the Cogeco website for $100.00 and that’s internet only. No bundles. No locked in time period, I called and asked to have my bill adjusted to the new price. Of course this is some incredibly difficult task. I have been put on hold for the last 10 minutes and still waiting. I will let you know what happens. AKS

Just a Warning regarding Contracts

Just a warning to others so that they don't end up in the same boat. I continually negotiate contracts with Cogeco to keep the prices somewhat competitive with the completion. Contracts are usually six months or one year. Last time, the best offer just happened to be a year contract. My daughter would be turning 14 half way through, so we knew at that time we would want to finally ditch the land line as we would all have cell phones. Therefore, I specifically asked the loyalty program Rep, "If I keep both my Internet and Tivo, but cancel the landline in the middle of the contract, will that cause me to get a $75 cancellation penalty?" She said no. She further stated that the $75 dollar penalty is applied if you leave Cogeco. You can modify your plans without issue including adding or removing channels, increasing or decreasing internet bandwidth, changing phone packages etc. I then clarified..."Or drop the land line altogether?" No problem. You just can't leave Cogeco for another provider. So I locked in. My daughter's birthday came, I called and asked to drop the landline and exactly what I feared happened. They told me that I would have to pay a $75 penalty. So now I am stuck with the line. So unlike me, you may want to get promises in writing. For so many years Cogeco was so much better than other providers. There service and their personnel. I used to call a local number. Now it is centralized. And since that time, they have unfortunately become more and more impersonal just like every other large company out there. And loyalty seems to matter less and less to them.

[INTERNET] Tivo on a Router - Does watching TV use up data?

Quick question. If a person bypasses the Moca setup and networks the Tivo main and mini directly to a higher end router, will all of the data used for watching Tivo count against data usage. I know that watching television through the Aris router with the native Moca setup does not use a person's data. But if your using an after market router, and using Ethernet instead of coaxial (not Moca), can Cogeco still determine what data is TV and what is other things? Doesn't really matter now because I am on unlimited. But it may if I ever decided to downgrade.

[INTERNET] Cable modem flapping

We've been dealing with issues with our 60mb unlimited internet for the last few years. We've had tech's out 3 or 4 times and have had the modem replaced 3 times. The issue in the beginning was momentary dropping of the connection to the point where we would be surfing the net and the browser would display an "unable to connect to internet" message. The last time the tech came out and changed the modem to a 5gh modem and stated, if the problem continues after this, then it has to be the outside lines. Well a year has gone by, and the internet issues were sporadic and a pain in the ass, but we dealt with it thinking that the issue is never going to be fixed. Then as we began to use Netflix streaming more, we began to notice picture degradation, where the picture would pixelate and become blurry for about 20 seconds and then return to normal on a tv that is hardwired with a 15 foot Cat6 ethernet cable. We then contacted Cogeco to come out last Saturday and upon arriving and checking the connection, the tech said, "Oh yeah. Your modem is flapping. Its flapping a lot actually". As he continued to check things, he stated that our entire building is flapping, and then further investigation revealed that an entire neighborhood node was flapping. He proceeded to tell me that flapping is a momentary disconnection, many of which are not even noticed, and that the number represents the number of disconnections. He then stated that an optimal flapping reading should be in single digits. Our reading was 1974. Most of the building was in double digits with some others in the 4 digit range. There were other addresses in our immediate area that were even higher than ours, and he pointed out that he had another service call after ours in the neighborhood for the same complaint. He did also state that the flapping was detected during the previous service call last year. He said that he would have to put in a service call to have the node checked, which he said would probably take a few days. My frustration is that nobody ever mentioned anything about any flapping or even the possibility of it during previous service calls. We were always made to feel as if it was because we lived in an apartment building, or it was something we were doing or that there was nothing wrong at all. The issue still hasnt been corrected as of today either. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this?

So I ordered my 120/10 service on Sept 6, to be activated on Oct 1 (today). Plug in my modem, call tech support to activate. He can't find anything in the system! Tells me to call customer support in the morning and have them put everything in the system. Wtf? Isn't that why I was on the phone with them for 20 minutes on Sept 6? I think I'm regretting my decision already.

[INTERNET] Upload Speeds

Curious. What is the limiting factor with respect to upload speeds? Download speeds seem to increase over time, but upload speeds rarely change, and there isn't really even an option to upgrade to higher speeds if one wanted to. Unless fibre is available. Is this a limitation of coaxial based internet?

Can I sell a Cogeco Modem?

I have a Cogeco modem (Cisco DPC3848VW DOCSIS 3.0) that was left behind by tenants in a house I rent out. I've had it for about 6 months now, but since I'm not on cable, and never have been, I don't know much about this modem, whether it can be reset to a new user, etc. If I sell it, am I basically ripping someone off selling them something they won't be able to use? How can I know whether it will work? It was working when they had it. No one has come looking for it, so I don't know if it's a rental or bought out. Considering Cogeco services that house and brought a new modem for the new tenant, the address must be clear in their system. Before anyone says I should give it back to the previous tenants rather than selling it, unless it's worth in the thousands of dollars (which it is not!), I'm out that much in clean up and repair costs after those people, so I can sleep at night recovering a few bucks off of it - if it will work.

[INTERNET] Cogeco price changes and cancellation fees with no notice!!

$

Hello folks, Happy to find this place! Cogeco changed my monthly charge by adding extra 35 $ monthly. I called them when they said, you were on an offer! I clearly said I updated the services a year ago with no offer! and nobody ever told me that I am in a limited time offer. after few minutes of discussion, the agent said I will give another offer of loyalty and will discount your monthly payment by 25 $. Later on, while still feeling angry and bad from that, I saw an online ad they offer for the new customer more than my package for only 65 $ while I pay 160$ for less. So, I called again today, then I told the 1st agent my story, he said wait I will look for a better offer for you, and just put me on the waiting queue again. Another lady picked up the line, I started to tell the story again, She was very very rude, she was making fun of my accent saying I cant understand what you are saying, what is the language is that you speaking! I kept my calm as much as I could and politely I told her to cancel the whole service, I really pissed off when she said, you will have to pay 150 $ termination fees since you accepted the 25 $ discount offer! I said what! what is that 150 $, and why, I do not accept that to whom I can complain? I got one answer for every question that I can't complain to anyone and I cant do anything, its the company policy and once I cancel I will be charged and you accepted that during your last call. I tried to explain I have not accepted to pay 150 $ and as per of the automatic voice messages they are recording the calls, you should back to my previous call and see if the agent told me that or not. Again, I got only repeated answer in same ridiculous way, "I can't help you, its company policy" Its really very bad experience with Cogeco.

Missed premier of "The Good Doctor" - does Cogeco offer it online

I missed the premier of "The Good Doctor" and didn't realize it until Episode 2 was broadcast. By that time, the free streaming on CTV.ca had already expired for Episode 1 and the only way to view it was to sign in through one of the supported broadcast partners. Cogeco was not among the choices. Is there any LEGAL way I can view the premier. I don't do torrents or anything else that may be considered illegal. Does Cogeco have an archived version of the program I can view?

Cogeco too expensive!!

$

Cogeco prices are way too expensive. I pay $203 a month for unlimited 40 internet and Digital Select 1 cable. I asked about TiVo and I was told DVR receiver is $15 a month along with $7 month for the TiVo mini's, plus a $50 install fee. I have been a long time customer since 1997 and the customer service agent would not budge on price lol I was not going to threaten to cancel cable... but once Bell Fibe becomes available in my area, I am gone... Most people are paying $160 for the service I have... I pay $203 and I am a 20 year customer. Ridiculous!

[TV] TIVO and Bridging cogeco modem

If I get cogeco TiVo service and 1 mini TiVo, can I put the cogeco modem into bridge mode so that it only acts as a modem? I would then use my current asus router for internet. I’ve read that if you do this, you lose some TiVo functions....would those functions just be iOS streaming and mobile streaming?
