My mother just got her boxes for HD TV. They are Motorola DCX700.
I see no way to get rid of the channels we are not subscribed to. So when zapping, she will have to go through a bajillion channels she doesn't have to see the few channels that she does have.
There is no way to delete channels from the favorite channels list without going through a bunch of menus.
There is no way to go back a channel in the favourite channel list.
If there is a way to do any of this, I haven't found it, which means that the controls and the UI are goddamn terrible. And the damn things don't come with a manual of course.
My mother has decided to return them and go back to SD TV.
How can Cogeco send this piece of crap to their clients?! Jesus Christ, Bell Express Vue receivers were doing a better job in 1998.

Am I crazy, or have these TV boxes been programmed by monkeys?!

Unable to sign in to My Account
Just tried. Used the saved Google smart password, didn’t work. Odd, tried manually typing in what I know the password to be. Still didn’t work. Ok, odder.
Reset my password after answering my security questions and receiving the reset email. Try to login, still no go.
Reset my password AGAIN, by copying and pasting both into the reset password fields, and then pasting again to login.
STILL says wrong password. WTF is up with the login for My Account??? What else have I done wrong here that I’m missing?

[TV] TiVo
Does anyone know if the TiVo box is different today then when it was originally rolled out? In other words (other than 4K) is there a new hardware version of the management n TiVo box?
Mine screws up every now and then and I’m getting tired of unplugging and plugging it back in to reboot.

[INTERNET] Default gateway no longer pingable?
It seems that as of the last week or so, the assigned gateway (router) from the Cogeco DHCP server is no longer pingable:
# ip route get 8.8.8.88.8.8.8 via 67.193.224.1 dev eth0.2 table balance src 67.193.227.1 cache # ping -c 5 67.193.224.1PING 67.193.224.1 (67.193.224.1): 56 data bytes --- 67.193.224.1 ping statistics ---5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
The router works though:
# ping -c 5 8.8.8.8PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8): 56 data bytes64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: seq=0 ttl=61 time=15.441 ms64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: seq=1 ttl=61 time=14.801 ms64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: seq=2 ttl=61 time=16.366 ms64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: seq=3 ttl=61 time=14.932 ms64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: seq=4 ttl=61 time=15.392 ms --- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0% packet lossround-trip min/avg/max = 14.801/15.386/16.366 ms
Prior to the last week or so that default router was pingable.
Anyone else notice a change of that nature?
Anyone else able to ping the router assigned to them from the DHCP server?

Cisco DPC3848VM - Remote Management
Recently upgraded to the DPC3848VM and noticed something odd. Remote management is disabled in configuration but actually accessible from outside my lan (available right from the internet).
What gives, this is brutal.

[TV] HD PVR availability
My parents are still renting an HD PVR with their TV service (recently changed to the My Mix 10 package). They began years ago with a Motorola box (I believe the 6216), but after it died it was replaced with a Pace (with which they're not enthused).
But it's still a $10/mo rental on their bill. We phoned and asked about outright purchasing an HD PVR, but it does not look like that's an option. The only non-Tivo receiver looks to be a non-PVR unit.
Are there any options for them? For how long they've been renting I suspect they could have purchased the unit by now - however I did explain to them that by renting, it allowed the no-hassle exchange when their Motorola box died.
They're worried about software or hardware issues moving to a Tivo receiver (since they have no experience with it). But also worried if they change ISPs (because Cogeco is really expensive for their minimal usage) it might affect their TV service.

Door to door
Is Cogeco going door to door in Ancaster asking about how good our service is and if we’re satisfied? Guy was wearing a badge that said Cogeco. Very suspicious to me as this is now the third time in the last year.

Thanks COGECO!
Called the promotions department last night. I was able to get my phone upgraded to the freedom package from the select package for free for the next two years (without any cancellation fee) and $10 knocked off on both cable and internet for 6 month (and yes there is a cancellation fee on both which I was made aware of $75). BUT making that call saved me close to $80 on my package. Each time I call to speak to the promotions dept, my bill seems to keep going down and down.

Cogeco Activation Fee ?
Does anyone know what Cogeco's activation fee for residential cable internet is ? Seems like they do not provide this bit of information very readily for some strange reason.

[INTERNET] Changing Cogeco WIFI Modem to Modem Only
I am helping a relative with setting up her home network. I would like to remove the Cogeco WIFI modem and use our own router. I don't want to use the WIFI Modem in bridge mode.
Can I just take the WIFI Modem box to a Cogeco store and trade it for a modem, or will they insist on sending a tech out?
Any comments appreciated!

Cogeco Unlimited
I just upgraded to Ultrafibre 60 Unlimited for Cogeco, but, I was reading the fine print and it says "Must not exceed a reasonable usage limit". How is it unlimited if there is extra charges? Does anyone know the price or limit not to go over for these plans? Thanks.

[INTERNET] Acceptable Cable modem signals?
Hi,
What are considered good cable modem signal values? I plan on raising alerts if they cross a certain threshold. Is this site's information correct? https://www.speedguide.net/faq/what-cable-modem-signal-levels-are-considered-good-78
Below are my current DPC3848VM values and apparently they are not good - a technician is scheduled for a visit later in the week:
Channel Power Level: Signal to Noise Ratio:
Channel 1: 32.700 dBmV 40.36dB
Channel 2: 32.900 dBmV 40.36dB
Channel 3: 33.000 dBmV 40.36dB
Channel 4: 33.500 dBmV 40.36dB
Channel 5: 33.700 dBmV 40.36dB
Channel 6: 34.100 dBmV 40.36dB
Channel 7: 34.300 dBmV 40.36dB
Channel 8: 34.200 dBmV 40.94dB
Upstream Channels
Channel Power Level:
Channel1 : 23.500 dBmV
Channel2 : 23.500 dBmV
Channel3 : 23.500 dBmV
Thanks a lot!

[INTERNET] smtp
We have spent the winter in the USA. Several times, we would get a message from mail program saying the Cogeco servers could not be accessed.
Is there any downside to using the gmail smtp servers (smtp.gmail.com) for outgoing mail from all our Cogeco email addresses??

New Cogeco on Demand
Is there anyway to block the adult section of Cogeco VOD, with the new style VOD, I have my kids asking what's 'blacks on blonds' .
I do realize that they don't have any pics with the adult content, however I would like to block it completely.
I have turned off Adult content in my TiVo settings. I have temporarily removed Cogeco VOD as a video provider to hide the adult content.

Extending Cogeco promo
My 6 months promotion is expiring soon: 60/10 internet, MyMix 40 with tivo, basic home phone, all for $72/month.
Has anyone ever been able to extend their promotions for another 6 months? is it even possible?
Thanks.

Chromebook Cogeco login issues
Hello all! First post. Just moved into a new address and my beloved Bell Fibe isn't available so it's Cogeco for internet and home phone for now. Anyway when I try to log in to my Cogeco web mail I'll sometimes get a java logo on the page with a load progress bar that stops at 15% and then a error notification that disappears too quickly to read. When I try again all I get is a "this page doesn't work ERROR HTTP 400" I had to load Aquamail to be able to get Cogeco webmail on this thing. Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks in advance.
Jim
