Hey guys, I have 2 Motorola DHT6416 (I think) pvr's. These boxes were not originally from Cogeco, but was able to obtain a few of them when a local cable company went defunct many years ago. I actually had about 4 boxes, and was able to sell 2 of them to people who activated them with Cogeco - so I know they are compatible.
I've tried selling these last 2, but found out that because they were not originally from Cogeco, Cogeco is refusing to activate.
Is there any way to get around this? As I said, I know the boxes will work, they are not black listed or reported stolen or anything, its merely because Cogeco has no records of them which is why they won't activate (this is something somewhat new as they DID activate unknown boxes previously). Not sure if its something that needs a managers approval, or is it just not something they will do anymore?

Cogeco Unlimited
I just upgraded to Ultrafibre 60 Unlimited for Cogeco, but, I was reading the fine print and it says "Must not exceed a reasonable usage limit". How is it unlimited if there is extra charges? Does anyone know the price or limit not to go over for these plans? Thanks.

Amazon Prime in Canada and TIVO
Apparently Amazon prime instant video will be launching in Canada soon. If and when this happens will COGECO enable the Amazon Prime instant video app on the TIVO boxes like all TIVO units have in the US?

[INTERNET] How to not lose emails when leaving Cogeco IMAP
WE have 5 Cogeco IMAP based email accounts. Using Thunderbird. Our Cogeco account is being terminated in a few days. What should I do to ensure that emails that are already in the Thunderbird folders do not get lost.
What is likely to happen to the folders in Thunderbird when Cogeco stops syncing?
I have read that I should move the emails to the T-Bird Local folder. But could I instead just change the account settings before being cut off, so that sync will not happen?

[INTERNET] Routing Issues to certain game (Age of Wushu)
Hi guys,
I've had this problem forever since playing this game: Age of Wushu. Basically the problem is:
Whenever I change zones (maps) my server delay spikes up and down constantly till I change maps again or re-log into the game (close the client and open it and log back in).
I am running the VPN Battleping on West Coast LA 6. My physical location is on the East Coast of Canada (pinging 75-85 ms to this Battleping server).
I have tried changing DNS servers, re-setting router + modem, look at Resource Monitor when the lag spikes occur (The process dnscache appears over and over again).
The game utilizes an anti-cheat called "Snail Game Protect" which I presume is sending my connection to China causing the significant lag spikes (I have checked Pingzapper on debug mode and noted it was connecting to a chinese IP every time I changed maps).
Below is a video of the noted problem:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Cwg9tmqOc
As you can see, this IP appears over and over again then disconnects. However when changing maps the ping becomes perfectly stable. For whatever reason, the game isn't connecting to the VPN the majority of time when changing maps (zones). I have asked many people about this problem and nobody has a solution. The game is fantastic, but I don't think I can keep playing with this problem anymore.

Peterborough Cogeco
Hello, I am thinking of buying ta condo in Peterborough in which Cogeco is the only option for internet and tv. I can sign up for the 120mb service which is adequate for my use. My question is, will I actually get that speed. Yes, my equipment is more than capable of that speed. Thanks.

To (tivo) mini or not
Exploring my options relating to my tivo (regular model that's a couple of years old, not the 4K unit) as I want to set up a second tv in the bedroom. I initially got a cheap Android box for plex and Tivo but it's been less than successful (the Tivo app dies any time you attempt to open).
So as I see it there are several options
a) get a Tivo mini @$7 plus tax month
b) look at 4th (maybe 3rd?) AppleTV
c) look for a second hand tivo mini on e-bay
Getting the mini in the short term will be cheaper but need get a long UTP cable. The AppleTV and I pay a lot more upfront but the thing is wireless.
Any other considerations (and no won't be going 4K at any point).

[TV] Can I Sell 3 Active Cable Boxes
I just learned about the scam Cogeco has gotten away with about not activating boxes not in their system. I have 3 boxes that are active but have not been used for a couple years so I want to sell them. I still have cable for my elderly mother things like Netflix is too complicated for her. The boxes were originally on the Shaw system when I bought them and when I activated them they gave me some hassle so I'm worried the buyers may have a problem.

MyAccount Tool Longterm Outage
Hi all,
I understand that the Cogeco "MyAccount" tool has been unavailable since 20 April due to various complexities with the upgrade process and at the time of writing, will continue to be unavailable to 30 April at the minimum.
A tweet from @cogecohelps has remarked "The complex operation of replacing our billing systems is the root cause of this temporary and involuntary situation." but not many questions have been answered.
1. People are unable to monitor their usage quotas using Cogeco's official numbers to ensure they are remaining under their monthly usage. It is unreasonable to bill based on hidden information that was previously available. Will Cogeco be cancelling overage fees or be counting "zero-usage" during this period of outage considering the billing system is officially unavailable?
2. Third party services that are officially integrated with Cogeco accounts are currently unavailable like the TiVo app or online streaming services, what should people do to gain access to these services in the meantime? Is Cogeco contacting third party providers to set up something temporary?
3. Given there are challenges and bugs that may arise from this situation, has Cogeco taken action to isolate the billing system from their other internal systems to ensure things like Internet connections or other services aren't errantly disconnected or interfered with due to bugs? Given (2), some services have already been impacted, so it's not a far stretch to assume others can be if this issue drags on.
4. For businesses this is tax time, and many businesses may have elected to use paperless billing. How can business leadership gain up to date access to documentation on what is paid to Cogeco for tax purposes (e.g. connections that are written off as business expenses)? Could this damage the Cogeco paperless initiative?
5. Some people on social media have noted that the Cogeco hotlines are largely unavailable due to "higher than anticipated call volume" or however it's phrased. Some people have noted that they have taken over an hour to get a representative, others have noted calls being dropped. What can people in these situations do?
6. What is the status of the upgrade process? Can we be informed of a roadmap and where Cogeco is on this roadmap so we can plan accordingly?

[TV] Sportsnet feeds freezing during certain "scenes"
I can't be the only who has noticed this.
The Sportsnet HD feeds (ch 732-736) will freeze when certain ads are played. No matter if it is my DVR or the minis. If there is a lot of fast movement, the signal freezes for a second or two. Always the same ads at the exact same spots in those ads.
We had this issue in Timmins on Eastlink when watching WSBK during the opening of The Big Bang Theory when the images on the screen change very fast. It was a signal issue, the video was changing too fast for the decoder to keep up and would stop than recover when it was back to nomal.
Mentioned all this to them on FB and got the old "you should call tech support" line. I refuse to call them just to get someone here sometime between 8 and 5 to say there is nothing wrong. My tech support history with them isn't good. Numerous calls for the same issue. They have been fixed but shouldn't take 4 calls.
Among this and the My Account bleep show and numerous stupid things like the numerous missing HD channels, the refusal to get CTV on-demand, being the only BDU without TCM, WPCH, WGN or Canadian West feeds in HD, glacial internet upload speeds.
Promo ends in June. Unless a miracle happens, we are gone.

Your widespread backend database system outage... ETA to fixing?
You guys left a lot of people high and dry over the past few days, is anyone going to give them a call and apologize? Just curious if sales are aware of the impact this had on Cogeco's reputation considering that no one's called the people that were abandoned for new setups.

[INTERNET] Cogeco wifi Hotspots
Question for Cogeco... I have recently used my account to access a Cogeco wifi hotspot in Hamilton and it worked great. Can we get some of these installed in the North Bay service area? Cogeco is a major presence in North Bay and this would not hurt gaining some market share as a value add.

[TV] The Weather Network local reports
One of the reasons I have stayed with Cogeco cable since they took over Northumberland Cable TV in 2001 is the availability of local weather reports and forecasts from The Weather Network on channel 21 in SD. For some years there there has also been an HD channel (767), but this does not carry localized reports, just rotating reports for all of Canada.
For months, there have been intermittent problems on channel 21, with frequent signal loss lasting from a few seconds to several minutes. As of yesterday, May 1st, we are now getting the HD signal from 767 on channel 21, without the signal drops but also without the local weather. Is this happening in other Cogeco service areas? Are they dumping all that useful local weather information without even telling their customers (which seems to be par for the course)? Can a Cogeco representative shed any light on this?
Local weather information is available online, but it's more convenient to be able to flip to channel 21 at any time while watching TV.

[INTERNET] Tivo Series 4 vs Series 5
My friend has a newer Cogeco setup than I do. I was trying to help him get something done when I noticed that his Tivo differed from mine. We dug a bit and discovered that he has a Series 5 and I have a series 4. Does anyone know what, if any, differences there are between the series 5 and 4? I have looked online but can't determine that. I think that we have proprietary systems configured specifically for Cogeco.

Am I crazy, or have these TV boxes been programmed by monkeys?!
My mother just got her boxes for HD TV. They are Motorola DCX700.
I see no way to get rid of the channels we are not subscribed to. So when zapping, she will have to go through a bajillion channels she doesn't have to see the few channels that she does have.
There is no way to delete channels from the favorite channels list without going through a bunch of menus.
There is no way to go back a channel in the favourite channel list.
If there is a way to do any of this, I haven't found it, which means that the controls and the UI are goddamn terrible. And the damn things don't come with a manual of course.
My mother has decided to return them and go back to SD TV.
How can Cogeco send this piece of crap to their clients?! Jesus Christ, Bell Express Vue receivers were doing a better job in 1998.

Anyone else notice...
that there are a lot of Bell shrills posting in the Cogeco forum, or is it just me?
