Upgrade to 360 Internet

The 360 Mbps is now available in my area, I'm thinking about upgrading. I see that it comes with up to 2 wifi access points. Anyone know if Cogeco makes you have a service call to upgrade? I really don't relish the the thought of them mucking around with my network setup.

[INTERNET] Watered Down Gig Packages - What gives Cogeco?

https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/cogeco-connexion-enhances-its-gigabit-offering-in-ontario-markets-692173431.html I was excited to see that Cogeco put out a press release that they had the capability to offer Gigabit services in Burlington. I checked out the website and the service is now listed as 1Gbit/s down and only 30Mbit/s up. What gives Cogeco? Previously the Gigabit service was advertised as 1Gig up and down. This new offer, for the same price, is really only an incremental upgrade from any other DSL/Cable package out there. With literally everything moving to the cloud having a faster upload speed is a must for most households. I work from home and my company does everything in the cloud so a 1Gig connection would have been amazing. Hopefully someone from Cogeco reads this and can offer some information around the decision and if there will be a full 1Gig up/down package in the future.

[TV] Out of home TIVO streaming

Hi, I've had a TIVO through Cogeco since they introduced them and have been overall very happy with my service (and the internet). Over the last few weeks, I've noticed that out-of-home streaming in the IOS apps is not functional. I can set it up at home, and stream and download from home, but the minute my devices leave that network, it's like the app forgets its setup and I cannot download or watch from iPhone or iPad. Once back on the network, all is good. I called into support this morning and they said that it was by design - ie you need to be on Cogeco wifi in order to stream or connect to your TIVO. Has anyone else experienced this? It sounds a bit odd to me - and not much of a feature, especially since it's pretty new. I've read the Tivo online thread below, and seems to be a similar issue, though theirs seems to have been resolved better! Any ideas on how to proceed? Technical details: I have the Cogeco modem set up in bridge mode to my ASUS router and the minis and main unit running through ethernet (rock solid and works like a charm). Thanks for any help or observations! Jeff

[INTERNET] Cable modem flapping

We've been dealing with issues with our 60mb unlimited internet for the last few years. We've had tech's out 3 or 4 times and have had the modem replaced 3 times. The issue in the beginning was momentary dropping of the connection to the point where we would be surfing the net and the browser would display an "unable to connect to internet" message. The last time the tech came out and changed the modem to a 5gh modem and stated, if the problem continues after this, then it has to be the outside lines. Well a year has gone by, and the internet issues were sporadic and a pain in the ass, but we dealt with it thinking that the issue is never going to be fixed. Then as we began to use Netflix streaming more, we began to notice picture degradation, where the picture would pixelate and become blurry for about 20 seconds and then return to normal on a tv that is hardwired with a 15 foot Cat6 ethernet cable. We then contacted Cogeco to come out last Saturday and upon arriving and checking the connection, the tech said, "Oh yeah. Your modem is flapping. Its flapping a lot actually". As he continued to check things, he stated that our entire building is flapping, and then further investigation revealed that an entire neighborhood node was flapping. He proceeded to tell me that flapping is a momentary disconnection, many of which are not even noticed, and that the number represents the number of disconnections. He then stated that an optimal flapping reading should be in single digits. Our reading was 1974. Most of the building was in double digits with some others in the 4 digit range. There were other addresses in our immediate area that were even higher than ours, and he pointed out that he had another service call after ours in the neighborhood for the same complaint. He did also state that the flapping was detected during the previous service call last year. He said that he would have to put in a service call to have the node checked, which he said would probably take a few days. My frustration is that nobody ever mentioned anything about any flapping or even the possibility of it during previous service calls. We were always made to feel as if it was because we lived in an apartment building, or it was something we were doing or that there was nothing wrong at all. The issue still hasnt been corrected as of today either. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this?

[INTERNET] Question for Marcer - cCable modems firmware for TPIA in Quebec

Hi Marcer, I am in Cogeco area in Quebec and I just bought a DCM476 modem from Kijiji to activate with Ebox. The guy selling the modem told me it was used with Teksavvy, and as the DCM476 is available only in Cogeco area in Quebec I was sure is has the Cogeco TPIA firmware, STAC 2.50. Once I received the modem, I was surprised to see that the modem has the STAC 55.10 firmware, the Videotron one. I ASSUME he gave Teksavvy the modem as being a DCM475 and he got a ride for a while. Now, when I'll activate the modem with Ebox in the cCable Quebec area, is Cogeco going to push the right firmware (STAC 2.50) and make the modem work? Similar with what Videotron does ... Or I am screwed? (because this modem model is not allowed in vCable, even with the right firmware) Thanks, Kodi

Is cogeco trying to push the elderly off their services?

Here is the problem Wed. Oct. 10th, 2018 my elderly parent's phone, internet and Tivo went out. I was able to get a service tech out their on Friday. The service tech said the line is broken down the street and wasn't fix right. The break happened earlier this year when Bell was putting in FIFTH in Kingston, Ontario. Bell actually cut the line numerous times in different places along the street. The Cogeco Tech said a new line would be run along the street on Monday. Nope. On Cogeco@cogecohelps and calling in to a tech I have been told lines are only run between April and Sept. They said they would be they would try to get a sooner date and If they have no service it would not be until some time after New Years. Again no one can give me a date. Their next door neighbor, who is very elderly, is trying to find someone to stay with her that has a cell phone. Like my parents, she is worried about a health emergency and not being able to call 911. All the old Bell Copper lines have been taken out. This is really unfair to these Cogeco customers that pay a lot for their services. My parents have been with Cogeco from the start, when it was Kingston Cablenet in 1978 (when we moved to Kingston). They got internet and phone when Cogeco came out with those services. I'm taking really old smart phone, Samsung Galaxy Discover, over to Telus and getting service on it for my parents and their neighbor to use. I know my mom with have trouble using it with her onset of Dementia and I don't know if the neighbor can use it. I know my father can lean to use it with my help. It's just that he shakes a lot due to his medications and may have trouble dialing it as there are no raised buttons on it. I just glad for G0T box sets that my brother purchased for them last Christmas. Anyone know who I should go to about this problem with Cogeco. Ellen Roseman? CRTC?..... I will wait till this Saturday, if it is not fixed, I want to talk to some one out side of Cogeco who can get thing done. The only other thing is they will have to switch to Bell. These are all elderly people who don't cut the cord because they are use to services they had in their youth. I personally use Start and Fongo for phone. I get my entertainment from the internet. For memory issues they would forget how work with that type of setup. I hope when Start gets TV, I may be able to migrate them to Start for all their services.

TiVo Youtube

So lately the YouTube app on the TiVo boxes crashes and suppers a lot. The only way to get back out of it is to unplug the box and reboot it that way. My kids watch the TiVo YouTube app lot. The constant crashing is starting to get annoying. At the same time - the Old Apple TV hooked up to the same switch via LAN is totally fine playing YouTube with no crashing. Is anyone else experiencing this and is there a fix? The kids channels are tied to the boxes and it would be great to get this going again. Seems to happen on all three TiVo boxes I have. Thanks

[TV] Huawei DC730 DTA adapters stopped working?

Hi, We received a pair of these digital to analogue converter boxes when our "Value" cable package switched to digital, which have work well for years now.. until recently. Last month one of our boxes stopped working suddenly, with the TV showing no input signal. Reconnecting the power the LED flashes for a second before turning off with no further sign of life or TV output. We decided to just unplug that box and leave the one in the bedroom, which still worked. That is until tonight, when similar to the other box, we lost signal on it. Reconnecting the power LED briefly flashes, then goes dark. I tried to do the equipment reactivation step from My Account, but that apparently shows "We’re sorry. The service requested is currently unavailable. Please try again later." and the apparent lack of life leads us to believe these boxes may have finally bit the bullet, or perhaps entered planned obsolesce.. What gives? Is anyone's little Huawei DTA box still working? Does anyone still have theirs? Can we even take these to a Cogeco store to replace, or would they want us to switch packages.. rent new receivers with fancy guide menus on them. -Bry.

Cogeco tech install no show - twice!

For a second time the Cogeco tech does not show up to install cable and internet. I am at wits end. This is two days given up from work. The tech couldn’t find my address and “called”, though he absolutely did not call. Best they can do is ANOTHER 8-4 window next week. I am livid, to say the least. I would like contact info for the office of the president if possible.

[INTERNET] 120/10 only from Cogeco Burlington. All others 25/10

Weird. I have 120/10 service. When I run any speedtest, I can only get 25/10, with the exception of Cogeco Connexion Inc. Burlington, which actually shows 125/10. Even Cogeco Connexion Inc. Trois-Riviere is only 25/10. Does that mean there's an bottleneck getting out of Cogeco's network? Anyone else seeing this? This is northend St. Catharines, but I'd be surprised if it's a local issue.

[INTERNET] E-mail with Outlook getting certificate error/warning

Moms e-mail (I'm 1st level support heh) is giving her a certificate warning when she sends mail. "the intended purpose of this certificate could not be verified" Issued to pop.cogeco.ca Issued by Go Daddy Secure certificate authority - G2 Do you want to continue with this connection (or something to that effect). When 'yes' mail does get sent. So I'm assuming Cogeco uses Go Daddy e-mail servers? The only thing I found on the net for something like this was someone who was signing onto pop3.cogeco.ca, and that mismatch makes sense. But I've triple checked the mail settings and they match what Cogeco says they should be. And send/receive works except for the popup warning message. If anyone has ideas... otherwise next time I'm down I'll try switching to Imap. Also, was there any hosting change? I swear the PW requirements for e-mail changed from 7 characters to 8 as the old PW was no longer valid. With a host move?! Thanks, T.

Technicolor DPC3848VM modem.. wired connection about 1/2 of wireless

So I just got the modem listed in the title. I hooked my Xbox to one of the Lan ports and I do a speed test on the xbox one (through the settings in the xbox) and my Upload is about 1/2 of what I get wirelessly. I have hooked tried linking in a router to the modem and hooked up the xbox to one of the ports on the router and I get full speeds. I would rather not have the extra router in the mix, anyone have any ideas what might be going on? Nat is Open on the Xbox in case anyone was wondering

UltraFibre 1Gig available in Milton

Just passing this on in case anyone is interested. Today I phoned Cogeco to confirm that what the website was reporting (that my address now qualified for UltraFibre 1Gig) was true. Apparently they have upgraded the peer hubs to DOCSIS 3.1 and they are now offering the enhanced service. I don't know if it is all of Milton, but I am in the Derry Rd & James Snow Pkwy area. The service isn't symmetrical, it is 1Gig down and 30Mbps up. 1Gig up is only available in limited regions. This is OK for me, at least I will now have a better upload speed as 10Mbps was not enough for my needs. I spoke to a tech and the modem they are issuing with this service is the Arris TG3452 which can be placed in bridge mode. As part of this 1Gig service, Cogeco also installs (2) Wireless AC range extenders in your home, but I will be asking the tech not to bother as I intend to use my own equipment with the Arris in bridge mode. The current pricing is $119.00 / month for 1 year (Internet only, no TV or Phone), then it goes up to $149. Assuming all goes well, I will have to try making some calls to continue that promotion price. I also spoke to a few sub-carriers of Cogeco, TekSavvy, Start.ca, CarryTel and each of them told me the same thing - for now, DOCSIS 3.1 is only available from Cogeco directly, they aren't allowing the resellers to use it.

[TV] Crave now available to Movie Network subscribers

It looks like this is now part of the Movie Network package. I'm able to log in to Crave using my Cogeco credentials, in Chrome. Does anyone know how it'll be implemented through TiVo? Presumably an app, like Netflix? It'd be nice if it was an OnDemand type service, but it doesn't seem likely. My TiVo box is kind of messed up, at the moment. It shows a problem connecting to the TiVo service, and I've also found a number of channels that I'm currently unable to tune to ('This channel is temporarily unavailable'). I expect this is part of the transition. Anyone else seeing the same thing?

[TV] Cogeco tivo without internet

I have grown tired of Cogeco's poor ignorant customer service and constant price hikes and need to beg for promotions and am trying to get rid of their phone and internet service while retaining the TIVO. Initial contact with cancellations has informed me that I cannot have Tivo without internet. I have successfully connected via ethernet the T6 box to my new router and service without issue but cannot get this to connect wirelessly. It seems that Cogeco might have locked the T6 to their router. Has anyone been able to bypass this issue so I can kiss their expensive limited internet the boot?? I don't need moca as I only have 1 tivo box.

Historic Package Pricing

Hey All, Completely random question here. I'm trying to find archived information on what the packages were that Cogeco was offering back in 2002 or 2003. Basically what the advertised speeds that they were offering at the time and what the price was, modem rental fee (if applicable), etc. I tried checking archive.org but due to Cogeco's extensive use of flash and server side scripting on their website at the time, their website isn't archived for the most part.

Sub 1Mbps upload and packet loss for ALL of downtown Acton

Acton Ontario has been suffering with unusable upload speeds on ALL cogeco/teksavvy/start Internet packages on the west side of town. The speeds have been sub 1mbps as seen here for over a month. http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/42090563 They keep sending out line techs to fix issues that are NOC related. I've had three line techs come out and tell me nothing is wrong with the line. I agree the line is fine and its a NOC issue. Cogeco REFUSES to spend the money and send out a NOC tech. Is Acton to small for such a large company to care about? Try the test for yourself, or if you are already suffering from terrible speeds and no resolution as I am CALL IN and COMPLAIN. They won't address the issue with out FIVE complains all from the same company (cogeco/teksavvy/start) They seem to be more concerned with saving money then customer service. Another example of the big companies lining there pockets to screw over the little guy. Don't let them get away with this! Call in and COMPLAIN about the poor speeds. Upload should be around 10Mbps not .03Mbps https://twitter.com/acton_dustin/status/1064984899684368385

[INTERNET] Cisco Technicolor DPC3848VM in bridged mode, still handing out DHCP?

I have a new Cisco DPC3848VM combination modem/router. The router part of it worked terribly with my network, so I disabled it, using the combo in "bridged" mode. Now, it seems as if the modem still works as a DHCP server, since when I connect a new device, it is assigned an ip address that is within the range of the modem's DHCP range, instead of within my router's range. This is a huge pain in the ass, as none of the ip addresses with the modem's range work with my separate router. Can anyone tell me how to fix this ?
