Cogeco new router settings backdoor!
Tech came over today, and couldn't get our wireless network up after tons of testing, and working with remote workers. They kept verifying that the password matched on the router itself, but wasn't the actual password for the wireless network.
Turns out the wireless settings (at a minimum) are managed remotely! And they can force them regardless of the local settings on the router itself! They have to "provision" it for WiFi "for their records"
So all things said and done, upon connecting to Cogeco, our all-in-one disables it's own wireless networks regardless of the local settings. And they can only remotely fix this in two days.
I can't even communicate my disgust at the incompetence of whoever thought that this was a remotely good idea. Let alone the security risks, remotely forcing settings, even beyond the walled-off password-of-the-day system they keep?
I kid you not, the suggestion was to "buy another router for the couple of days then return it once it starts working"

A first!
So my promo was set to expire at the beginning of October for my 120/10 internet. Called in to cancel with loyalty dept. As usual, he asked for reason for cancellation. I said that promo is expiring and regular price is too high. No offer of price reduction, nada, zilch! Went ahead with the cancellation.
I've made this call a number of times over the years and was always offered SOMETHING. Cogeco has definitely changed. Looks like this time I'll be gone for good. Still can't believe it!

TiVO all in one modem - default WiFi credentials
What a pain. My parents are still with Cogeco (phone/TV/internet), but of course I'm generally their first line of defence for tech support.
Up until now, they had a Pace standalone PVR. It's been having issues, so turns out Cogeco rolled out a tech and they've replaceed the Pace box with some kind of Tivo setup. This means that their cable modem has changed, and it's an all in one modem, router, and wifi access point.
Sounds like their previous router - which they just purchased a few months ago - isn't even presently connected, which is a little frustrating. But this means that all of their wifi clients are no longer connected, and I'm told the tech did not leave any instructions or connection information for this new frigging all in one modem.
Is there a default SSID and password setting for the WiFi on these things? And by password, I certainly wouldn't expect something like "password", but perhaps tied to the serial number of the modem. They'd like to get their wifi clients back online for now, at least until I can sort things out a little better down the line.

[INTERNET] 3 IP addresses on Arris modem in Bridge Mode
Hi all, I"m pretty new here, but not new to networking/Interwebz, etc.
I've been having some trouble recently with the Arris modem that comes with my Cogeco internet service, so I asked them to switch it to Bridge Mode. I have one of the internal ports on the modem plugged into a cisco switch on a dedicated "external" vlan with a few other devices on the same vlan. However, only one gets an IP address. I confirmed with Cogeco tech support that I should be able to get 3 IP addresses, but it isn't working.
...their tech support told me that to get 3 IP addresses, I had to switch out of bridge mode. hmm. I was expecting to just add a device to my external vlan, set to dhcp and get an address.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something specific I need to ask them to do to "authorize" more IP addresses through my modem (i have seen some threads saying this is necessary).
I've tried just about everything I can. sniffing the vlan, and i see packet counters on the switch port increment, i can see the dhcp request going out when I tcpdump, but I get no response from upstream.
Any tips or tricks to get this going would be awesome.

DNS service no longer works, disable ipv6?
I use a DNS service with Bell fine for year. Now that I just switched to Cogeco Technicolor router it no longer works. Provider said I had to disable ipv6. Any ideas?
Currently using VPN from same provider however it's annoying too do each device individually.

Cogeco has been going down every night at around 11 PM
Has anybody else been having issues with Cogeco lately? For the last few days, Cogeco has been going offline for about 5 minutes at 10-11:30 PM. Speed and such seem fine. It's just one minute it's on, the next it's off.
Anybody else getting this?

Alternative router
Anyone using an alternative router with their internet service? I can't sort out the DNS issue I've been having and wondering if a different router would solve it. I'm on the 120 plan. Either that or time to ditch Hulu and others.

No good TV options
So I have, what appears to be, the new dilemma for many here. My contract is about to expire and cogeco really doesn't care if I leave after about 10 years. Every year it has gotten a little more impersonal....this year completely.
It is unfortunate because I have enjoyed cogeco. Some issues here and there but not many. And I love Tivo. So the problem is this. I have researched for hours, and nobody appears to have a system even remotely like Tivo that I can see. My only other option in Windsor Ontario is Satellite. There is a Vmedia...but I haven't read anything I like and it is only 720p. Tivo can record six streams at a time ....the satellite option is a maximum of two. I could get two receivers for a total of four recordings but they don't link together so what is recorded on one can't be streamed to the other.
Does anyone have any ideas that I may have missed? Techsavy seems to be the best price with Start very close as well. But both don't offer a television service.
Any advice welcome. I need to jump ship by October second...when my price goes up by 40 to 60 dollars a month. And they are already higher than the competition with my loyalty discount.

Cogeco tech install no show - twice!
For a second time the Cogeco tech does not show up to install cable and internet. I am at wits end. This is two days given up from work. The tech couldn’t find my address and “called”, though he absolutely did not call.
Best they can do is ANOTHER 8-4 window next week. I am livid, to say the least.
I would like contact info for the office of the president if possible.

[INTERNET] Cable modem flapping
We've been dealing with issues with our 60mb unlimited internet for the last few years. We've had tech's out 3 or 4 times and have had the modem replaced 3 times. The issue in the beginning was momentary dropping of the connection to the point where we would be surfing the net and the browser would display an "unable to connect to internet" message. The last time the tech came out and changed the modem to a 5gh modem and stated, if the problem continues after this, then it has to be the outside lines. Well a year has gone by, and the internet issues were sporadic and a pain in the ass, but we dealt with it thinking that the issue is never going to be fixed. Then as we began to use Netflix streaming more, we began to notice picture degradation, where the picture would pixelate and become blurry for about 20 seconds and then return to normal on a tv that is hardwired with a 15 foot Cat6 ethernet cable. We then contacted Cogeco to come out last Saturday and upon arriving and checking the connection, the tech said, "Oh yeah. Your modem is flapping. Its flapping a lot actually". As he continued to check things, he stated that our entire building is flapping, and then further investigation revealed that an entire neighborhood node was flapping. He proceeded to tell me that flapping is a momentary disconnection, many of which are not even noticed, and that the number represents the number of disconnections. He then stated that an optimal flapping reading should be in single digits. Our reading was 1974. Most of the building was in double digits with some others in the 4 digit range. There were other addresses in our immediate area that were even higher than ours, and he pointed out that he had another service call after ours in the neighborhood for the same complaint. He did also state that the flapping was detected during the previous service call last year. He said that he would have to put in a service call to have the node checked, which he said would probably take a few days.
My frustration is that nobody ever mentioned anything about any flapping or even the possibility of it during previous service calls. We were always made to feel as if it was because we lived in an apartment building, or it was something we were doing or that there was nothing wrong at all. The issue still hasnt been corrected as of today either.
Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this?

Arris extension modem now giving unidentified network invalid ip con
I recently upgraded to the 1 gig down 30 up package, they replaced my main modem, and install an extension modem in the basement (The Arris with the problem). This extension modem is set in AP mode and is connected to its own coax. I have it direct connected to a pc via ethernet and it worked perfectly fine from when the tech was here installing everything back on Sep 18th until just a few days ago when something changed. It now shows up in windows 10 as unidentified network with an error saying invalid ip configuration.
I've tried on another pc and same thing. Nothing on these computers has changed unless their was a windows 10 update I'm not aware of in the past few days. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the ethernet adapter drivers, done all the /ipconfig stuff, and more and to no avail.
I feel like this is something that changed on Cogeco's end...

Cogeco dropping The Movie Network?
So, I recently received an email from Cogeco that basically says they're dropping The Movie Network (TMN Go) as of November 1st. Can anybody else on here confirm that?

What does this mean for apps such as TMN GO? I use that app all the time on the Xbox, and would hate to lose access to it because of this change.

AMC-HD Channel 779 unwatchable
Last week my recording of Walking Dead was unwatchable due to audio cuts in/out and a totally corrupted artifacted picture. Audio was playing less than 10%.. and the picture was 80% corrupted...
Last week, I just thought... hmm maybe there was a storm or some kind of interference or something ...
This week, it is the same... the live channel is the same, so its not just the recording...
I called COGECO - they said nobody else has complained about the channel..
I already have a tech visit scheduled for the internet upload congestion problem, so when that guy comes, hopefully I can show him the AMC channel too....
Has anybody else been experiencing problems with this channel with COGECO.. It is usually fine. just noticed the problem the past couple weeks.. not sure if its constant or just Sunday's as I typically only watch this channel Sunday nights... I'll have to keep my eye on the channel this week and see how consistent this problem is...
All the other channels I tried are fine....

Anyone having Internet issues in the Lake/Carlton area. My Internet stopped around noon and I dread having to call into support (and wait on hold) if it's just an area outage.

[TV] Cogeco HD Receiver Rental Price on My Mix 20
I have been paying for 1 HD receiver rental at $7 for several years now. Every time I look at the receiver section on Cogeco's website it states $0 with the following fine print
"To qualify for the monthly bundled regular price of $0 on the HD receiver, customers must subscribe to at least one (1) Cogeco service including Digital TV with a minimal subscription to My Mix 10 TV package. The monthly price may vary with any other combination."
I have asked Cogeco before while they were handling another issue and they claimed I didn't qualify because I didn't subscribe to multiple services from them. Going by their fine print I don't see how I could not possibly qualify. Can anyone else confirm they are paying a rental fee while on either My Mix 10 or 20 packages?

speedtest.net slow?
When I do a speedtest via speedtest.net or the Android app on a wired or wireless device, I get 45 Mbps max out of 120 Mbps using the servers hosted by MNSi, Start and Teksavvy. However... These speedtest services max out my connection no problem: Fast.com, DSLReports, AT&T, Google Fiber.
Has anyone else been experiencing this for the past couple of days?

[INTERNET] cogeco's dns or google servers are broken
i get a lot of broken websites, mainly google-related pictures that won't load, when using cogeco's dns. if i use a proxy or change my dns servers to point to another isp's servers, pages load just fine. this has been going on for months.
