[INTERNET] two internet connections using a splitter?
There are two, physically separate network and the small/medium-sized library where I work. I am the only technical person on staff and those that went before me were gone before I started, and they weren't super technical, so I've inherited a few head-scratchers.
We have two 120Mbit Internet connections, one is for the staff network and the other is for the public network. The two cable modems are connected to the same physical piece of coax using a signal splitter!
Isn't this kind of stupid? It seems to me that the two modems are going to collide on transmits and end up having to back off and resend. (I'm guessing it's something along the lines of CSMA of the Ethernet days.)
I have other issues behind the two modems, but I'll create a separate post for that.

Cogeco modem/Router Issue
So lately I'd been having issues with my routers wifi intermittently going off and on. It was stuck in a fast loop of this. After resetting it it would no longer work. Said connected, no internet. Called Cogeco they said internet is working fine. Since I'd had the router around three years I figured it was pooched. Ordered a new one, came today set it all up and now it's the same fucking problem. I get connected, no internet.
Cogeco modem is TG1672 Router is D-Link DIR 859 Can anyone help?

[INTERNET] Getting 33 Mbps download on a 360 Mbps connection everyday
Hi, I've been a Cogeco customer for 14 years but now I'm loosing patience.
I upgraded from a very stable 60/10 and since installation a week ago for 6 to 12 hours per day everyday I get a download speed of 33Mbps on my 360Mbps while connected by wire to the modem.
They replaced the CODA-4589 one day later for the same model, the problem was still happening so they came back and the very kind tech told me there is nothing he can do the technology is not ready.
I do no use their wifi since I have my own router so they disabled it. I cannot log into the modem UI since nobody even the tech has the right password to do that... I brought a new router but the problem still persist.
The tech told me that the modem could not fuse the channels correctly which is why I was getting this speed. He told me that each device would at least get this 33 Mbps but that was revealed false and all my network share this 33 Mbps... On my 60Mbps connection I was getting speed of 70 and my friend one street from me on cogeco 60 is getting exactly that while I'm getting 33 at the same time as him. It seem to happen the most often between 17h to midnight but it happen during the day too.
The alternative would be a arris modem that one tech told me was way worse then the Hitron.
There seem to be a problem with just having a regular modem with no wifi router integrated. I'm ready to buy my own modem if needed...
Let this be a warning to those of you that want to try their new connection. Even their tech say all router are unstable and that the technology was not ready to be deployed yet.
I saw bell installing fibers in our neighborhood from comment I got this look like a superior product.
Any suggestions ?

Hitron CODA-4589 IP Passtrough modem now fully bridged
As toucan see in the screenshot, my router is getting the public IP instead of an Internal IP.
Also , The wifi got automatically disabled after I rebooted the modem.
After the hitron rebooted , I have rebooted the router as well. Voila.

Can't Bridge New Coda-4589 Modem And Cogeco Won't Do It Either
Just upgraded to the 360/30 Unlimited, bill went down 20 bucks :) In doing so I was given the Coda-4589 Modem. I asked installer to bridge the modem as I would like to use my own router and he said he did, upon going onto Xbox Live I now had a double NAT causing issues. I noticed the the modem is "not" bridged so I went in to do it myself, the modem will not save the settings. I called Cogeco and was told that they could set the modem to bridged but when they found out I have Tivo they said they can't bridge the modem. I bridged my last modem and Tivo worked fine, any thoughts?

Hitron CODA-4589 IP passthrough
From what I seen in other posts, this modem can do passthrough to one of the ports on the modem. My question is, if you do this... Will the internal router functionally still work for everything else?
The goal is to have a pfSense router get it's own router and have some of my stuff behind that... but everything else use the Hitrons WiFi. Is this possible? If so, will both networks have its own IP address?

only 20Mbps upload on 360/30Mbps package
This isn't a life or death situation - I just wanted to mention it in case it gets worse.
Up until about 2 weeks ago, I was consistently getting 30Mbps upload speed. It seems that since the end of December the upload speed has been much more inconsistent ranging between 15 and 25Mbps.
Its still above 10 and usually about 20, so its not that big of a deal; however, I just thought I'd point it out in case it gets worse and or in the hopes that it doesnt get worse.
The download speed is mostly consistent around 350 - 370Mbps which is fine.

Arris TG3452A - Latency Issue?
Hi all,
I'm using the Arris TG3452A with my 360/30 service and Tivo. I've started noticing more and more issues with my service - for example, stutters and hiccups during video conference calls, Google Home Hubs that randomly lose wi-fi connectivity for 20-30 seconds.
I've tried to troubleshoot to the extent I can - for example, connecting my laptop directly to the modem for my video conference calls. No improvement.
I've read about the Puma 6 issues and have run the test at http://www.dslreports.com/tools/puma6. You can see my results here: https://imgur.com/a/imGHeky
I'm worried about trying to explain this to a Cogeco tech - my experience with them has been hit or miss. I'm wondering if I should try to move to the Hitron, which I know also has its issues but I understand has worked through some of them with recent firmware updates.

[INTERNET] Will Cogeco Ever Bring 360+ To St. Catharines?
I was looking at houses in Stoney Creek/Hamilton, just about every house was rocking 1 Gbps cable, or 1+ Gbps fiber optics I checked. So annoying we've been stuck at 120 or slower for so many years.

Another Cogeco rate increase
Looks like Cogeco has decided to raise prices again, for the second or third time this year. After raising prices May 1 (and maybe Jan. 1 for some), they've now scheduled more price hikes for Nov. 1. CEO Philippe Jette told analysts in July that there's still room to introduce "reasonable" price increases despite competition from other technologies. Even for those who "cut the cord," there's more dollars available from them to increase speeds on their internet, he said. "So we see capacity for price increases in the future, being reasonable and making sure customers see the value we're bringing to the table."
Personally, I'm looking forward to being able to kiss 'em goodbye.

Notice of Settlement - Class Action
I've gotten an email saying there is a class action lawsuit against Cogeco and that I'll be compensated because my account was part of the billing mess that Cogeco had not that long ago. I was wondering if anyone else got it too? I'd post the email here, but I'm not sure what parts are unique to my account, or if it's just a general email that everyone got. I can't find anything about it online. It seems real. It does say I don't have to do anything to stay part of it. It came from cogeco@communications.cogeco.ca

[INTERNET] Moca Adapter With Arris TG3452A
Has anyone tried any of the Actiontec moca adaptors with the Arris TG3452A? I’d like a wired connection to a spot on my property where there is coax, but running Ethernet isn’t feasible. I’m guessing that I’d only need one adaptor as I’m already using moca on the arris end for my TiVo setup. Anybody had any experience with this? Interested in any comments.

[INTERNET] half speed on gigabit connection
I got my gigabit internet installed yesterday. When the tech did the speed test using his own device, the download speed was hovering around 700-800mpbs. The tech told me that it is due to the type of connection they use it in my area.
When I connected my laptop directly to the modem (hardwired), and perform the speed test, I got between 460-520Mpbs. I have tried a lot of different servers, including Cogeco (via their FAQ page link), still can't get over 520Mbps on a gigabit connection.
Over Wifi, the speed drops drastically, and I can't get over 200Mpbs (I am using my own router Linksys EA7300-CA, and no matter what settings I use, I can't get it over). If I connect my laptop directly to my router, I can get upto 300Mpbs, but not over that.
I had the tech disable the Wifi on Hitron CODA modem, so that I could use my own Wifi setup. Not sure what the problem is ... how do I get better speed i.e. gigabit speed or close to it?
I have done factory reset on my router, the firmware is up to date. I am using CAT6e cable between modem and my router. Maybe I need to start using Hitron's wifi rather than my router ... but still hardwiring that to my laptop only gave me half of gigabit speed not even close to gigabit.
Any suggestions?

[INTERNET] Hitron coda-4589 router
This router has been nothing but problems since it was installed. Tech #1 says it goes down 10 times a day but it's not a big deal because some customers internet goes down up to 10000 times a month!!!. He says The Hiltron is unfixable as it is using a Puma chipset, and a firmware update by the manufacturer has not been made available to internet providers. Phone tech say this is nonsense and tech #1 is crazy, the Hiltron-4589 can be fixed so that a modem isn't dropping up to 10000 a month. So the obvious question is can the router be fixed or will the router dropouts continue?
I call tech support every day to let them know the number of times my router goes down and they automatically give me a credit whenever I call - which is every day, so basically I'm not paying for the internet part of my package!! So does any one know if Tech #1 is right or is the phone tech right?

Packet Loss In Waterdown Area?
So, for the last few days, I've been getting pretty big drops in network quality. It comes and goes randomly. The upload speed will basically die (1-5 Mbps) and packet loss of around 5-25% will happen for a while. Can last hours, minutes, whatever. Not congestion related, as it happens randomly at all hours, including 3 AM last night. Download speed is also a bit inconsistent, but tends to hover around 880-910 Mbps, instead of the usually solid 940 Mbps I normally get.
There's been a ton of power outages in Hamilton the last few days, as well as some here in Waterdown, which is typical. (we've begun to call it Powerdown)
I've also been able to time the internet problems to occur every time there's a power outage in Hamilton. Not sure why, how, or if, the power outages in Hamilton, a town over, are affecting the internet, but it certainly seems like they are. If not, then it's a weird coincidence.
Anybody else having any issues, specifically people from the Waterdown/Hamilton area?
